Suffolk County is renovating and repurposing the original Yaphank correctional facility in the Town of Brookhaven. Bids open September 15. Every worker on a county public works contract of $250,000 or more has to hold a 10-hour OSHA construction safety card before doing any work, so line that up early if your crew is short of cards. Renovation and adaptive reuse of the original Yaphank jail for correctional officer training, administrative functions, and the Sheriff's START re-entry program: full interior renovations, replacement of the freight elevator with a new hydraulic passenger elevator, replacement of all windows, entry doors and storefront systems, plus new parking areas, landscaping, fencing and security-driven site improvements. Nearly every CSI division is in the package (concrete through utilities, incl. Bids due County listing shows the new date without a time. Note: the mandatory pre-bid has already been held — only firms that attended can bid. Project Labor Agreement applies.
